Rescue & Refashion Your Clothing With FabMo Textiles (WK-RFN-0426)
10 am to 2:30 pm Sunday, April 26th
Join us for a rescue and refashion clothing class where you will learn how to use FabMo linens, laces, and other fabric pieces to create textile collage pockets and appliquéd art panels. The finished pocket and panel collages can be sewn onto existing handmade garments, like a simple pair of pants, a plain jacket, or blouse.
The class will also include a demonstration on how to overdye fabrics for even more customization options for your future projects. This class is open to participants ages 12 and up with beginner sewing skills. All minors aged 12 to 14 must have a paid for seat and be accompanied by a paying adult.
In this class, students will:
- Build a textile collage pocket and appliqué art panel to apply to a piece of clothing.
- Add hand sewn embellishments and embroidery with FabMo’s supply of threads, buttons, and charms.
- Learn how Rhonda over-dyes FabMo’s unfinished quilt squares, laces, and cotton or linen fabrics (demonstration only).
- Use the provided blossom and butterfly appliqué patterns to build pocket and panel collages (or draw their own design).
- Complete their projects at home with provided video links to see how these textile pockets and panels can be sewn onto clothing.
The fee is $75, which covers all the materials you will need. Bringing a garment (a pair of jeans, denim jacket, or a shirt) is optional, as you will be building layered patches and pockets that can be added to your garment during the class or at home. There will be a 30 minute lunch break, so please bring a packed lunch or snack.
This workshop will be taught by Rhonda Finfrock, a traveling creative workshop instructor with a passion for rescuing or reusing textiles to create something new and original. Her handmade creations have been showcased in past FabMo Artisans Markets, and she also provides free tutorials on her YouTube channel.
