Introduction to English Paper Piecing (EPP) (WK-EPP-0517)

$75.00

9:00 am to 12:30 pm Sunday, May 17th

Learn the basics of English paper piecing (EPP), a hand-sewing technique that typically uses simple geometric shapes to form complex patterns in quilts. In this class, you will learn how to use this technique to make a hexagon flower that can be appliquéd onto a mug rug or a piece of clothing. Randa will also share her ideas for using EPP hexagons in larger projects, such as small quilts or larger appliqués.

This class is appropriate for anyone aged 15 and up with basic hand sewing skills. The fee is $75, which will include all the materials you need, including pre-cut card stock hexagons, clips, and a plastic hexagon template to take home. You have the option to bring your own medium-weight fabrics (such as quilting cotton) and any favorite personal hand-sewing supplies (e.g., scissors, thimble) to use in the class. You also have the option to bring a garment if you want to appliqué the finished flower onto a piece of clothing.

You will leave the workshop with:

  • A completed hexagon flower, which can be appliquéd onto a mug rug or a piece of clothing

  • All the information you need (including pre-cut card stock hexagons) to make a larger EPP hexagon project (various options will be presented)

  • Information about English paper piecing as a quilt-making technique

Randa Mulford is an experienced teacher who has taught several EPP workshops for local quilt shops and guilds, including last year’s popular Introduction to EPP class at FabMo. She has won several major awards for her EPP quilts and ornaments.
