We are pleased to offer a new introductory class in sashiko, a versatile Japanese stitching technique that is typically used to mend, strengthen, or decorate garments and other items made from fabric. In this class, participants will hear about the historical uses of sashiko, learn the basic running stitch, and choose from different stencils to transfer the patterns to fabric. Participants will be able to complete at least two or three samples on cotton indigo fabric, one of which will be converted into a beautiful coaster ready to be used at home.
This three-hour class will be taught by FabMo Board Members Bron McInerney and Gayatri Ratnam. The workshop fee is $60, and all necessary supplies and equipment will be provided, including helpful notes for the participants to take home. This class is suitable for all skill levels and is open to participants ages 13 and up. All 13- and 14-year olds must have a paid for seat and be accompanied by a paying adult.
