ARTISAN NAME: Isabel Echeverria

CREATIONS: Purses, Totes, Bags, Garments

ARTISAN STATEMENT: I make unique bags, accessories, and garments that combine style and function. At least 90% of the materials I use in my creations are rescued from the waste stream. I am inspired by bold patterns and colors, unusual textures, and unexpected combinations. I strive for simple yet functional design. Each piece is unique.

I have been going to FabMo since before the pandemic. After the world opened again, I started volunteering there. My pandemic project was to re-do my red sofa with a patchwork of samples from FabMo. It was intimidating, but I stuck with it and learned a lot about working with thick upholstery fabrics on a home sewing machine. This is how I got the sewing bug and started making bags and garments for myself, my family, and friends. I enjoy the challenge of finding elegant and original ways to give these discarded materials a new life.

Every item I sell is something I would make for myself. I am self-taught and have honed my craft through countless hours of creating, experimenting, and trial and error. I am not satisfied until I find the look I want and the craftsmanship that makes me feel proud.
