ARTISAN NAME: Scottie Ross

CREATIONS: Junk Journals, Journal Covers and Notebooks

ARTISAN STATEMENT: My anthem these days is (with apologies to Hamilton) "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Our Stories?” Who, if we don’t; and preferably before we die. Lol. I make "junk journals," where I repurpose everyday items, junk mail, paper bags, and copy paper to use as writing surfaces. When I discovered FabMo in 2014 just after I retired, I thought I had died and gone to heaven! I immediately recognized the treasures that were available and began using leathers and upholstery fabrics to create mini patchwork quilted book covers with "wonky" stitching, and not one straight line to be found. They are pretty; not perfect. The purpose is to get our words on the page so that our place on this planet is documented! Or at the least to make a list of what we need from Costco. Or, considering what we’ve been through the last few years, Faith and Prayer Journals. The books come traditionally bound or as refillable covers with a replaceable notebook inside and are guaranteed conversation starters in any coffee cafe or the Costco checkout line.

I've branched out this year into iPad and laptop covers, because, hey, some folks write their stories on devices. LOL. Also trying my hand at totes and large bags, mainly to try to use up all the wonderful fabric I've accumulated all these years.
