Roadtrip - A Big Hit!

Last Friday we experimented with taking a truckload of FabMo treasures offsite, to the Bear River Wine Tasting in Auburn, just north of Sacramento.  We learned a LOT!  Our hosts couldn't have been more accommodating, and the enthusiastic volunteers outdid themselves in planning and publicity, as we had about 20 people waiting for us to open the doors.  In fact, that was one of the biggest lessons - all publicity needs to stress the need for appointments and direct the curious to the FabMo website, not the winery's.  We probably had as many without appointments as with, resulting in a pretty crazy morning.

The crowd was happy and engaged, but more chaotic than we like.  Piles lost any sense of order, as it resembled Macy's basement or a rummage sale.  Our volunteers made the best of it, but we were disappointed that we couldn't keep restocking as long as intended.

We’ll definitely do this again, with location to be determined by where the next organizing volunteers show themselves.  If you’d like to build the next one, we’re looking for a location about 100-200 miles from Mountain View.  The local organizer puts together a local team to locate a suitable venue, create publicity, connect with local sewing/crafting/quilt clubs or guilds, etc.  We schedule appointments on the web just like our events in Mountain View.
